Our Founder and president
Cheryl wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. She always enjoyed remodeling homes and interior design, and anything to do with homes is her passion. Cheryl is a firm believer that a house will always remain a house, but when your family and heart are in it, it becomes an extension of you and that is when it truly becomes a home.
Still passionate about homes and helping people, Cheryl became a Realtor. It wasn’t until years later one of Cheryl’s best friends approached her to join a National Charity, because of Cheryl’s background in interior design. Over the course of 5 years Cheryl designed and made a difference in the lives of 37 children and their families.
When Cheryl and her family moved back home to Tulsa, OK her mission was to continue supporting families and their children. She wanted to start her own charity based on a similar concept, which is creating makeover rooms for children with life-threatening illnesses.
“I had the worst time thinking of a name that fit; I wanted it to have meaning. My daughter, being so creative, thought of "Rooms With A Heart", and I said, "That’s it!" Every room makeover has changed me. I don’t feel like I am a very emotional person, but when you see just a glimpse of what these families endure with their child’s illness, the financial strain, and the sacrifices they make daily to try to have a normal life, you can’t help but be humbled and want to do whatever it takes to put smiles on their faces, even if it is just for that day. I have seen communities, companies, and volunteers come together for these families in need, and it is inspiring to see the generosity and outpouring of local support. Especially in a world that can seem so negative at times, it is refreshing to see the positive side to people giving back. I feel inspired to give back. Looking back on my childhood, my life goals, and passion to make a difference through creating Rooms With A Heart Charity, everything has finally come full circle.”
Rooms With A Heart is founded in 2017 in our hometown of Tulsa, OK. Our goal is to work with hospitals for referrals to help children with special needs or illnesses that may be life threatening. With the funds we raise through corporate sponsorship, fundraisers, and donations, we can complete dream rooms for these children and put smiles on their faces when they come home from the hospital.
